The lucky Southern Maryland lotto player had to keep her cool after purchasing a top-prize winning "$100,000 Ca$h" instant ticket while out running errands with her daughter in Anne Arundel County.
She says that the two made a pit-stop at 7-Eleven in Edgewater to pick up snacks, and her daughter, who often purchases pairs of scratch-offs for her mother, bought a soda for herself and two $30 "$100,000 Ca$h" instant tickets for her mom.
When the daughter returned to the car, she handed off the scratchers and the two took off down the highway.
"I just kept my calm," the low-key player told Lottery officials. "I was taking my time scratching like I normally do and was taken aback when I saw the ‘win’ symbol.
"So, I scratched a little further and saw one zero and then another zero. $100 is what I thought.”
The zeroes kept coming.
“I saw more and more zeros, which appeared to be $100,000,” she said. “I showed my daughter so she could check for me.”
The daughter, who accompanied her mom to claim the prize, said, “I had to look to see what the ‘win’ symbol meant. Then, we stopped at another store to scan the ticket.”
Sure enough, the Calvert County mother scratched her way to a six-figure prize.
"She’s very low key,” said another daughter, who joined the winner and her sibling in the Lottery Winner’s Circle. “That’s just how she is, she doesn’t get overly excited about things.”
With her newfound windfall, the lucky lady said that she plans to share some of the cash with her family, and the rest will set up a nice little nest egg for her in the bank.
